In my more than thirty years of delivering data and analytics to business users, the most common complaint I’ve heard is not about data quality, data completeness, data latency or even data access. Rather, my business users are most likely to be dissatisfied with the speed of their queries. I’ve come to realize that no matter how business-critical my data may be, if it takes too long to query, then no one uses it. If you were to create a chart where you plot query speed on the X-axis and number of users on the Y-axis, you would see a straight line that quickly drops to zero, moving left to right.
