Where can I watch the Subsurface LIVE recordings?

All Subsurface keynotes and breakout sessions were recorded and will be made available to watch online On Demand. You can request access to the recordings from Subsurface LIVE Summer 2021 for free by filling out this form.

Who should attend?

Subsurface is a technical conference tailored for data architects and data engineers like you: the data teams on the front lines building next-generation cloud data lakes. Subsurface will also be relevant for data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, Teradata) administrators, infrastructure engineers and even technically minded key decision-makers.

Why should I attend?

You’ll learn the latest information about important open source projects driving innovation in cloud data lakes, such as Apache Arrow, Iceberg, Nessie, Parquet, Delta Lake, Airflow, Arrow Flight, Dagster, Superset and Druid; you’ll learn from peers who are building cloud data lakes to solve for a wide range of use cases from data warehousing and BI to data science and advanced analytics; and you’ll join a cloud data lake community that continues on after the conference to help you network and discover tips, tricks and best practices for making your own cloud data lake a success. As an added benefit, studies show that a vast majority of guests attending events by Dremio have been known to leave more elated than visitors to Santa’s Workshop, The Lost Continent of Atlantis, and the Fountain of Youth. 🙂

How much does Subsurface cost?

Thanks to our generous sponsors, Subsurface is totally free!

Is Subsurface pre-recorded or live?

Subsurface will be streaming LIVE. We know live events are just inherently more interesting, after all, anything can happen! We also know technology and network issues sometimes occur, so we’ll have pre-recorded backups that we can cut over to just in case. Assuming all goes well, we won’t need them at all.

Will there be Q&A?

Yes. You’ll get live audio Q&A at the end of each session as well as Slack-based Q&A with speakers during “office hours” following each session. And once office hours are over, you can still continue the conversation on Slack with other attendees. Even better, all of the Slack channels will persist after the conference as part of the ongoing cloud data lake community we’re building. So you’ll be able to come back anytime and continue to engage with peers and industry experts.

Why is it called “Subsurface”?

We named the event Subsurface because you will dive deep below the surface of the data lake to explore technologies, the how’s and why’s, and the best practices to make your cloud data lake world-class.

How does it work, do I get a link to join?

You’ll receive an email with login instructions after you register and again the day before the event. The email will include your personal “magic link” which will automatically log you into the virtual event platform. From there you can set up your profile and  familiarize yourself with the platform. On the morning of the conference, we’ll email you again to remind you that it’s about to start. Our event platform is browser-based and easy to join and use, with no software downloads or a hairy setup. At Subsurface, you will enjoy a modern cloud experience.

Were previous Subsurface LIVE talks recorded?

Yes, as long as you register, even if you are unable to attend the live event. If you miss something or just want to refresh, you will be able to log in and watch any of the sessions.  You can check out the sessions from Subsurface LIVE Summer 2020 here.

Is there an “exhibitor hall” of some sort?

Yes. You’ll be able to virtually visit exhibitor booths to learn about the latest industry innovations, get live demos and ask your burning questions. You’ll also be able to jump into topic-based Slack channels with other attendees, speakers, the event sponsors, and the open source project leads to get questions answered, watch demos and more.

What about SWAG? I love SWAG!

Yes indeed, for the first 1,000 attendees who attend the event (not just registrants) we’ll be sending out a cool, soft-cotton Subsurface t-shirt and SWAG box. Unfortunately, because of shipping restrictions due to the pandemic, these giveaways will only be available to attendees in North America and Europe.
